The 2023 Update is here.

Capture

Capture is the name our new suite of input features. StaffPad has always been about capturing your musical idea in seamless, intuitive ways, such as handwriting capture. Now, we're introducing Piano Capture and MIDI Capture.

Piano Capture uses your device's microphones to listen to your grand or upright acoustic piano, and convert it into sheet music, via our new on-device machine learning engine. It can do this in realtime, or can transcribe existing recordings with the flick of a switch.

If you don't have a real piano, you can connect a USB or Bluetooth-enabled MIDI keyboard controller and play your parts into StaffPad in realtime with MIDI capture.

Video Staff

We know that a lot of composers that use StaffPad often work to picture. We're pleased to announce that StaffPad now supports working to video. Simply create a video staff, import your file, and then refine its position and length to get the perfect placement. Combine this with the power of the tempo and time staffs to get really precise. Once you're done, export the movie straight from StaffPad with your new soundtrack.

Muse Sounds

StaffPad is now able to use the phenomenal, free Muse Sounds. This extensive collection covers the orchestra and choir in great detail. Get them free in the StaffPad Store.

Piano Capture

Piano Capture converts your acoustic piano into notation via on-device AI. You can use it as a realtime input method, or record into audio first - edit and perfect your take - and then view it as notation.

MIDI Capture

As well as audio transcription of real, acoustic pianos... you can connect a bluetooth or wired MIDI controller to record notation directly into instrument staffs.

Harmonise

We've added a new audio mixer effect for vocal audio staffs: Harmonise.

This effect synthesises musical harmonies for your vocals, using its understanding of the harmony within your score.

Dynamic Mastering

Found in the score settings panel, the new Dynamic Mastering processor employs an advanced suite of DSP to act as your virtual mastering engineer.

This processor applies multi-band compression, stereo widening, EQ and limiting to make your music sound radio ready.

Of course, you can always turn it off - but we recommend a setting of about 25% for most music. Just dial it in to taste.
